Oshkosh Defense has won a $61 million contract from the U.S. Army for the delivery of the Underbody Armor Kit that will be equipped to the military service branch's Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles for landmine and improvised explosive device protection.

The Oshkosh, Wisconsin-based tactical vehicle manufacturer will provide 1,081 upgrade kits for the FMTVs under the firm-fixed-price contract, the Department of Defense said Friday.

The military employs the Oshkosh Defense-built vehicles for troop transportation, resupply, maintenance and recovery, and engineer support operations. The FMTV is fitted with a Long-Term Armor Strategy-compliant cab and other advanced technologies for military personnel protection.

Contract work at the company's headquarters is expected to be completed by June 30, 2022.

Oshkosh Defense, the sole bidder, received the full contract value at the time of the award. The amount was paid from fiscal 2019, 2020 and 2021 European reassurance initiative funds.
