NASA has awarded a total of $20 million to five small businesses for the continued development of technologies meant to address environmental and risk-based challenges and deliver lunar capabilities in support of Artemis exploration missions.

The phase two projects will tackle thermal resilience, thermal control, radiation-tolerant computing avionics, drive actuation and small satellite propulsion under NASA’s Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer program, the space agency said Saturday.

The projects align with NASA’s strategy to partner with industry in support of Artemis, which aims to revive astronaut-manned space exploration.

The follow-on Sequential Phase II contracts continue the research and development done by participants in the program’s first phase, which aimed to determine the proposed technology’s feasibility.

The awardees are:

  • Advanced Cooling Technologies
  • Alameda Applied Sciences
  • Ashwin-Ushas
  • Motiv Space Systems
  • Troxel Aerospace Industries
