RE2 Robotics will build an Underwater Dexterous Manipulation System for Explosive Ordnance Disposal Applications for the Office of Naval Research under a $2.7 million contract.
The company said Tuesday DMEA works as “manipulator arms” that provide unmanned underwater vehicles the functionality to dispose of waterborne improvised explosive devices.
Jorgen Pedersen, president and CEO of RE2, noted that the company aims to deliver its mobile manipulation technology to support the underwater systems market.
He added that RE2 worked with its partners Bluefin Robotics, Pennsylvania State University’s Applied Research Laboratory, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command‘s Systems Center Pacific division and Hagen Schempf of Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute.
RE2 is a CMU spinoff company based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
