abstract spaceNASA has issued a solicitation in search of proposals from industry and academic institutions for ideas on how to build solar array platforms for use in future human and robotic space exploration missions.

The space agency’s Space Technology Mission Directorate is interested in new solar array systems that work in high-radiation and low-temperature environments, NASA said Thursday.

STMD plans to award up to four contracts and grant $400,000 each to each recipient under the 9-month base term for the Game Changing Development program.

STMD will also grant $1.2 million for research projects under the initial option of the GCD program and $2 million for the second option.

NASA’s Langley Research Center oversees the GCD initiative for the directorate.
