HitachiBrian Houston, a vice president at Hitachi Data Systems‘ U.S. federal subsidiary, believes agencies need to apply analytics to virtualized environments in order to gain insights into their data situation, FCW reported Tuesday.

“The biggest issue that everybody’s trying to get their hands around is, ‘What do we really have?’” Houston told FCW’s Zach Noble.

He said early adopters have started to review the costs of deploying all their applications to the cloud, noting that “not everything needs to be in the cloud from a cost justification,” according to the report.

Houston said agencies are factoring in security and cost in their cloud consideration, Noble reports.

He also warned that enterprises could see increases in costs and numbers of breaches if they put what he calls “the wrong data” in the cloud, FCW reports.
