General Dynamics has tested the technical functions of the upgraded Remote Video Surveillance System for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection as part of the program’s deployment schedule.
The company said Wednesday it has also completed the initial field deployment of the system in support of CBP’s surveillance and response operations along the southern U.S. border.
Edward Hudson, vice president and general manager for advanced technology solutions at General Dynamics’ information technology business, noted that the RVSS upgrade works to boost situational awareness, officer safety and operational efficiency.
The system features a wide-area electro-optical and infrared multisensor camera system and a video analytics function and is currently installed on 17 tower sites for the Nogales border patrol station in Arizona.
CBP has also deployed RVSS in Naco and Douglas, also in Arizona.
“[We] are excited to have achieved an initial operating capability in our first area of responsibility,” said Mark Borkowski, assistant commissioner and chief acquisition executive at CBP’s office of technology innovation and acquisition.
General Dynamics One Source received the potential 10-year, $103 million RVSS upgrade contract for the southern border in July 2013.
