DigitalGlobe, Harris, PrecisionHawk and Verizon have combined their technologies to demonstrate airspace services the companies intend for use in unmanned aerial vehicle operations.
PrecisionHawk said Monday the test incorporated Verizon’s LTE network, Harris’ Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast and aircraft surveillance network, DigitalGlobe’s geospatial big data platform and PrecisionHawk’s Low Altitude Traffic and Airspace Safety platform.
“We are leveraging satellite-derived information to create consistent information and analytics for safe drone flights,” said Shay Har-Noy, DigitalGlobe’s senior director of geospatial big data.
“This is significant collaboration that represents a huge step forward for the FAA and the safety and well-being of the American public,†added Har-Noy.
The companies will continue to assess the ecosystem through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Pathfinder program and the NASA UTM project.
The LATAS platform works to connect airspace safety technologies over LTE and satellite platforms for consumer and enterprise unmanned aerial systems.
LATAS operates with DigitalGlobe’s geospatial big data platform to identify and avoid obstacles.
