northrop-Grumman_BLUENorthrop Grumman and the U.S. Army have completed a flight test on an integrated air and missile defense system built to help soldiers identify and destroy targets.

A Patriot Advanced Capability 3 interceptor engaged a cruise missile target through the command-and-control input provided by the IAMD battle command system during the demonstration, Northrop said Monday.

“The IBCS gives warfighters the advantage of expanded sensor and weapon system combinations and enables a component-based acquisition approach,” said Dan Verwiel, vice president and general manager of Northrop’s integrated air and missile defense division.

An engagement operations center commanded the PAC-3 interceptor missile launch via the IBCS mission control software to hit the MQM-107 drone target.

The air and missile defense system uses tracking data from Sentinel and Patriot radars.
