Raytheon logo_EbizRaytheon has been awarded a $29.6 million contract to update the communications systems of the U.S. Air Force’s 178 C-130H Hercules aircraft in an effort to meet European air traffic management requirements.

The company will install MXF-626K VHF systems on Hercules to provide 8.33 kilohertz channel spacing in the 118 to 137 megahertz range, Raytheon said Thursday.

“Hercules operators can communicate freely, reliably and securely wherever their missions take them,” said Scott Whatmough, vice president of integrated communications systems for Raytheon’s space and airborne systems business.

The MXF-626K tactical communications system works to deliver air-to-air and air-to-ground line of sight, air traffic control and maritime band operations to C-130H and C-130J aircraft.
