DARPAThe Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency awarded contract modifications to Raytheon and Lockheed Martin for the Multi-Azimuth Defense Fast Intercept Round Engagement System program.

The Defense Department said Friday the modification awarded to Raytheon will increase the total value of its contract to $18.9 million, while the “other transaction” agreement Lockheed landed will amount to $14.9 million.

MAD-FIRES aims to protect naval vessels from the threat posed by attacks from unmanned vehicles, missiles, small planes and other platforms.

DoD said Raytheon will provide work under option one of its contract at sites in Arizona, Massachusetts, New York, Texas and Virginia with a projected completion date of February 2017.

Lockheed will help conduct initial risk reduction demonstrations to identify and mature MAD-FIRES technologies in Grand Prairie, Texas, and Gainesville, Virginia, through February 2017, according to DoD.
