GemaltoGemalto has been selected by Jordan’s ministry of information, communication and technology to deliver citizen identity cards and automatic fingerprint identification systems to the country’s interior ministry through Amman-based banking and technology company OFFTEC.

The digital security company said Tuesday its Sealys polycarbonate contactless e-ID cards and AFIS aim to support Jordan’s national security, immigration control and anti-election fraud efforts.

Gemalto said its identification systems will be implemented in 100 civil status and passport offices and work to help MOI staff mitigate duplication of entries in the national registry through the collection of citizens’ personal and biometric data.

The company further noted that 25 centers will employ its systems to personalize and issue smart cards with laser-engraved and chip-embedded information.

The cards can also be modified to feature new e-government services and applications after issuance, Gemalto added.
