PatriotMissileRaytheon has put the updated Patriot Integrated Air and Missile Defense system through a test to evaluate its detection and engagement functions against ballistic missile threats.

The Patriot system with the Post-Deployment Build 8 update worked to detect and neutralize a ballistic missile target by firing PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement and GEM-T interceptors in succession, Raytheon said Thursday.

The company performed the test at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico Thursday.

“Patriot users around the globe are currently employing interceptor mixes in ongoing combat operations to increase cost-effectiveness and provide commanders with operational flexibility,” said Ralph Acaba, vice president of integrated air and missile defense at Raytheon.

A Patriot partnership composed of 13 countries helped fund the development of the PDB-8 configuration.
