IARPA_logo_EMThe Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity has released a solicitation for research proposals on a tool designed to help the Intelligence Community detect and identify various types of chemicals in remote areas.

IARPA said in a broad agency announcement posted March 11 it intends to build a low-power system designed to detect chemical weapons, explosives and narcotics under the Molecular Analyzer for Efficient Gas-phase Low-power Interrogation program.

The MAEGLIN program seeks a modular tool that can also detect nuclear materials, chemical signatures of petroleum fractionation, combustion and other industrial chemical processes as well as chemicals related to biological warfare agent production and deployment.

Under the program’s initial phase, proposed systems should be able to collect, separate and identify various chemical classes as well as independently gather, analyze and calibrate gases.

The program’s second phase will deal with system integration and prototype demonstration.

Proposals for the MAEGLIN program are due May 10, according to the BAA.
