M777 HowitzerBAE Systems and Emirates Defense Technology have formed a partnership with the intent to offer BAE-built M777 howitzers in the United Arab Emirates’ defense market and develop their self-propelled artillery concept further.

The companies aim to develop a self-propelled artillery system that would integrate the British contractor’s 155mm towed howitzer technology with EDT’s Enigma 8×8 armored fighting vehicle platform, BAE said Monday.

M777s are lightweight and designed to provide military users with rapid-reaction and firepower capabilities in the battlefield.

A model of an integrated M777-Enigma platform was showcased by BAE and EDT during last year’s IDEX defence technology exhibition.

BAE noted more than 1,000 company-made howitzers are currently in service with land forces of the U.S., Canada and Australia.
