ElectronicWarfareL-3 Communications has received a potential three-year, $19 million contract to develop a Radio Frequency Continuous Wave Microwave Power Module amplifier for the U.S. Navy.

The Naval Research Laboratory awarded the firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract through a competitive procurement process with three bids received, the Defense Department said Friday.

DoD said NRL will use the RF CW MPM amplifiers to replace the ones installed in existing and newly acquired electronic warfare platforms onboard shipboard and aerial systems.

According to a notice posted on FedBizOpps, NRL’s tactical electronic warfare division uses the RF CW MPM amplifier as a transmitter as well as a tool to design and assess prototypes of airborne and surface shipboard EW platforms that work to protect against electromagnetic spectrum-related threats.

L-3 will perform work in San Carlos, California, through May 19, 2019.

NRL will obligate $6.84 million from the service branch’s “other” procurement funds for fiscal 2016 at the time of award, according to DoD.
