night visionN2 Imaging Systems has secured a potential five-year, $49 million contract from the U.S. Navy to develop weapon sight technology for the service branch’s crew-served M2HB/M2A1 machine guns.

The Defense Department said Tuesday contract work will occur through May 2021 and include test teardown, evaluation, non-warranty repairs, provision item order spares and data support services.

DoD noted weapon sight systems work to help military users perform surveillance and target acquisition missions through all light levels and visibility conditions, DoD noted.

The Navy awarded the contract nearly seven months after it posted a solicitation notice on FedBizOpps and received four proposals for the acquisition program.

The Naval Surface Warfare Center obligated $4.9 million at the time of the award from the service branch’s fiscal 2016 operations and maintenance and other procurement funds.
