AFC130j EBizLockheed Martin has received a multiyear contract from the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s mobility directorate to produce an additional 78 C-130J Super Hercules transport planes.

The directorate will use the aircraft to provide airlift support to the U.S. Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard, the Air Force said Sunday.

The contract contains an option that will increase the Air Force’s total C-130J procurement to 83 aircraft during the next five years as well as provides funds for a program meant to reduce contractor labor costs over the contract’s life.

C-130J is intended to replace the C-130H models and expand the existing J models in the Air Force fleet.

The J model features new avionics and propulsion systems.
