Cisco-LogoEbizCisco has invested $10 million toward its two-year Global Cybersecurity Scholarship program the company started to address what it estimates as a projected global shortage of 2 million cybersecurity professionals by 2019.

The company said Tuesday it will also integrate a new Cyber Ops Certification to its current certification portfolio and update its CCIE security certification to address new skills and education that will help prepare security personnel for new security threats.

“We developed this scholarship program to help jump-start the development of new talent,” said Jeanne Beliveau-Dunn, a vice president and general manager at Cisco.

“This includes the opportunity to help diversify the information technology security industry by reaching people around the world including veterans, women and those early in their careers, to inspire them to enter the cybersecurity profession.”

Cisco added the CCIE security certification revision will also include assessments on the latest advanced threat protection, advanced malware protection, next-generation IPS, virtualization, automation and information exchange security technology.
