The U.S. Navy has ordered $27 million in maritime electronic warfare payloads from Harris Corp. in support of a Naval Research Laboratory program to implement decoy technology for the service branch.

Harris said Monday that it will present an update to the Nulka decoy used by the Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard, as well as provide testing and engineering services in line with the EW mission requirement.

Canada and Australia also operate the Nulka decoy in their naval forces.

“Decoys are an essential layer of shipboard protection, often serving as the last line of electronic defense,” said Ed Zoiss, president of Harris’ electronic systems segment.

He added that Harris’ decoy for the NRL’s Advanced Decor Architecture Project works to help against RF-guided anti-ship weapons with electronic techniques.

The Navy issued the order under a potential three-year, $54 million contract awarded in September 2015.
