electronicThe U.S. Army plans to buy Gumstix‘ embedded computing modules to support a system that works to evaluate soldier performance, Military & Aerospace Electronics reported Wednesday.

John Keller writes the Army intends to acquire 2,964 GUM3703E Overo EarthSTORM embedded computing modules from Gumstix through a sole-source deal.

The Army program executive office for simulation, training and instrumentation will use Overo EarthSTORM for the Precision Real-Time Location System radios and data communications interface at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center in Hohenfels, Germany, Keller reported.

PRTLS radios work to gather data from vehicles and soldiers in training and transmit the information to the JMRC instrumentation system which is designed to monitor training exercises and give feedback to soldiers, Keller wrote.
