090326-N-0000X-001Lockheed Martin will integrate a new Aegis baseline system onto the destroyers ships operated by the U.S. Navy, Japan and South Korea under a $490 million contract awarded on Friday.

The company said Monday it will equip the ships with the latest version of the combat system called Aegis Baseline 9 as well as the SPY-1 radar technology.

“We will continue the Lockheed Martin tradition of providing Aegis on-time and on-budget so these destroyers are prepared to meet the evolving demands of securing the U.S. homeland and its allies,” said Jim Sheridan, director of Aegis U.S. Navy programs at Lockheed.

Lockheed will install the updated Aegis technology on the Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers, Japan’s Kongo and Atago classes of destroyer ships and South Korea’s KDX-III Sejong the Great Class destroyers.
