worldview-4-satelliteLockheed Martin has completed the encapsulation of DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-4 Earth imaging satellite into a launch vehicle fairing platform.

WorldView-4 is scheduled to take off Sept. 16 onboard a United Launch Alliance-built Atlas V rocket, Lockheed said Thursday.

Lockheed will now transport the satellite to the Space Launch Complex 3 East at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California for integration with the Atlas V 401 rocket, which is provided by Lockheed’s commercial launch services business.

WorldView-4 will work to double DigitalGlobe’s satellite imagery coverage and increase the company’s 16-year library of time-lapse imagery, Lockheed said.

Lockheed noted the satellite is designed to orbit Earth every one and a half hours and collect 18 terabytes of data or more than 262,000 square miles of the Earth’s surface on a daily basis.
