Raytheon logo_EbizRaytheon has expressed plans to sell its new medium-range air-to-air missile to a number of international customers, DoD Buzz reported Wednesday.

The AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile – Extended Range integrates the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile‘s rocket motor in effort to increase range and altitude, Brendan McGarry writes.

Raytheon developed AMRAAM-ER in collaboration with Norway’s Kongsberg Gruppen, the report said.

Michael High, a Raytheon program manager, told DoD Buzz that potential AMRAAM-ER customers include the U.S., Norway, Finland, Spain, the Netherlands and Oman.

He added that the company could also offer the missile to governments that seek to replace their MIM-23 Hawk missiles, move from short-range to medium-range munitions or maintain compatibility with longer-range Patriot missile batteries.

The report said High indicated AMRAAM-ER will be available for deliveries by 2020.
