operational security1A new study by Wynyard Group has found that 55 percent of U.S. law enforcement professionals have begun to adopt case management software platforms in their investigations.

Wynyard said Thursday it conducted an online poll of 271 law enforcement personnel from federal, state, county and municipal policies agencies in August for the study and found that nearly 40 percent of respondents said they do not use automated tools to help in their investigations.

The company said case management software works to help investigators perform data search, save electronic files and facilitate collaboration on cases.

The study showed that 67 percent of case management software users said their agencies use a customized tool, while more than 30 percent of users said their offices use commercial-off-the-shelf software.

Wynyard also found higher dissatisfaction rate among users of customized software than COTS software adopters based on net promoter scores.

The report also noted that 43 percent of law enforcement professionals surveyed said they both use tablet computers and smartphones in their work, while 23 percent said they do not have either a smartphone or tablet device.
