Andras SzakalAndras Szakal, vice president and chief technology officer of IBM‘s U.S. federal business, has participated in a panel discussion that tackled how public sector organizations utilize and acquire cloud services, Sys-Con Media reported Wednesday.

Dana Gardner writes Szakal discussed how cloud service providers have created purpose-built cloud environments for federal government entities which have enterprise applications that have to be transitioned into the cloud.

Szakal also discussed how IBM has shifted towards an open interoperability system from a closed computing environment in response to demands from clients such as financial banking and healthcare institutions that require a capacity to interoperate with other vendors.

The IBM executive added the development of the Internet of Things, gaming systems and platforms have played a role in the growth of cloud services in the private sector.

He also said that open source and the economy of application program interfaces will support efforts towards interoperability.
