big-dataThe Commerce Department‘s National Technical Information Service has selected 35 organizations via a merit-based process to serve as joint venture partners tasked to work with NTIS on data projects to be performed for federal agencies.

Commerce said Wednesday the NTIS JV private sector partners, that include small and large businesses, nonprofit and research groups, were selected as a result of a merit review of proposals in response to the Opportunity to Enter into a Joint Venture with the NTIS for Data Innovation Support notice.

“As America’s data agency, the Commerce Department is committed to making it easier for businesses, government, taxpayers and communities to access, analyze and use data to strengthen economic growth and create new jobs,” Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker said.

Avi Bender, NTIS director, said that the agency looks to connect private sector service providers with agencies in a push to boost accessibility and interoperability among national data sets.

“We expect the new data science platforms, tools and apps created through these partnerships to help agencies save time and money through innovative, effective ways to manage data in carrying out their mission and operations,” added Bender.

A near-full list of chosen joint venture partners can be found here, while some organizations asked the department to not identify them pending signatures of agreements.
