swriSouthwest Research Institute has received potential five-year, $39 million contract to help the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division build tactical and non-tactical systems.

SwRI said Tuesday it will provide research, development, testing and support services intended to help NSWCDD address technical challenges.

The nonprofit aims to help fulfill the center’s system requirements for homeland security, counterterrorism, mission assurance, force protection, unmanned systems and associated programs under the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract.

Errol Brigance, a director at SwRI’s applied physics division, said the organization has supported NSWCDD over the past eight years and will continue to offer technical services to assist the center.

SwRI has worked with NSWCDD to develop an eye-safe laser projection device and a biometric tool designed to gather physiological characteristics as well as identify or screen individuals.
