Orbital ATKOrbital ATK has announced plans to expand the operations of its launch vehicles division through the construction of a new facility in Chandler, Arizona.

The company said Thursday it will establish a 46,000-square-foot facility at Allred Park Place and aims to create as many as 500 new full-time science, technology, engineering and math positions over a five-year period as part of the expansion effort.

“Our launch vehicles deliver commercial and government payloads into orbit, including critical supplies to the crew aboard the International Space Station,” said Rich Straka, vice president and general manager of Orbital ATK’s launch vehicles division.

“This cooperative agreement with the state of Arizona and City of Chandler helps ensure we have the room to support those vital programs for our country.”

Orbital ATK currently has a total footprint of more than 840,000 square feet in Arizona which supports  more than 2,000 technology, aerospace and defense jobs with a total payroll of $170 million.
