Joe KimSolarWinds’ Joe Kim: Federal IT Pros Should Integrate Network Monitoring Into Software-Defined Data Centers - top government contractors - best government contracting event, a senior vice president and global chief technology officer at SolarWinds, has said federal information technology managers should implement network monitoring tools to address challenges associated with the adoption of software-defined data centers.

Kim wrote in a GCN article published Tuesday those SDDC-related challenges include the need to manage service-level agreements and configuration issues.

Government IT leaders seeking to facilitate oversight of SDDCs should adopt application- and server-monitoring platforms that work to track capacity and performance of apps through a common dashboard, Kim noted.

He also called on IT managers to support SDDC implementation with the adoption of the Discover, Alert, Remediate and Troubleshoot framework and the Secure, Optimize, Automate and Report structure.

The DART framework seeks to help administrators develop a baseline for the performance of their IT infrastructure while leveraging alerts to “quickly ascertain and attack the root cause of problems.”

The SOAR framework calls for IT administrators to address the change management issue through optimization, automation and protection of virtual networks against security breaches, Kim added.
