Boeing's Insitu Subsidiary Demos UAS Situational Awareness System - top government contractors - best government contracting eventBoeing‘s Insitu subsidiary has demonstrated a ground-based airspace situational awareness system designed to help unmanned aerial systems detect nearby aircraft.

Insitu said Tuesday it developed the system with beyond visual line-of-sight capacities for UAS ground control operators to avoid “non-cooperative” traffic during flight operations.

The system employs technologies that deliver airborne dependent surveillance broadcasts and transponder returns intended to help UAS controllers obtain a common operating picture as well as view local airspace data in real time.

Insitu designed, built and tested the system with Boeing’s Phantom Works subsidiary through a Queensland government-sponsored program.

The BVLOS system test occurred in November at the Mississippi State University’s Raspet Flight Center.
