Kolcun_Curt_smallCurt Kolcun serves as vice president of Microsoft’s U.S. public sector business vertical, a position he started in the summer of 2008 after five years as head of the software maker’s U.S. federal business.

In this role, Kolcun is responsible for sales, contracting, citizenship and marketing efforts for the company’s U.S. government, education and public sector healthcare markets.

Executive Mosaic inducted Kolcun as an inaugural member of the Wash100, EM’s collection of executives that drive vision and work toward achievement for the public and private sectors.

He has been with Microsoft for almost 20 years and was the federal practice manager for Microsoft’s consulting business prior to his role as federal business leader.

When he joined Microsoft, Kolcun was the company’s first systems engineer assigned to work on the Defense Department account and worked closely with product groups to lead Microsoft’s initial field efforts on security, encryption and standards initiatives.

He began his professional and technical career as an airman in the U.S. Air Force, where he had the opportunity to lead a project team responsible for the first Air Force system designed to automate the creation of Government Bills of Lading.

Kolcun left public service in 1983 to become a systems engineer for the federal branch of NBI and joined Microsoft in 1989 as a senior architectural engineer.

He received several awards in 2008 such as a FCW Fed 100 Award, GCN Industry Executive of the Year for 2008, the National Guard Youth Foundation Youth Challenge Award and the 2008 AFFIRM Leadership Award for Industry.
