Jim McNerney, chairman and former CEO of Boeing, has been selected by Chief Executive magazine to receive the publication’s 2015 CEO of the Year award.

Chief Executive Group said Thursday that McNerney’s leadership role at Boeing helped the company generate an annual average shareholder return of 25.2 percent and a compound annual growth rate of 32.9 percent over the past five years.

McNerney stepped down from the CEO post Wednesday after 10 years at the helm and was succeeded by 30-year company veteran Dennis Muilenberg

He also serves as chair of the President’s Export Council and is a board member at IBM and P&G.

A peer selection committee selects the CEO of the Year award winner after an evaluation of the 10 most frequently cited nominations collected from Chief Executive magazine readers.
