IBMlogo3 EbizIBM has invested in several educational programs meant to encourage university students, entrepreneurs and information technology professionals to learn how to develop cloud computing applications with IBM technology.

The company said Wednesday it launched the Academic Initiative for Cloud to incorporate the Bluemix platform into cloud development curricula at 210 universities worldwide.

The program offers the universities access to IBM’s instructional materials, technologies and methodologies and allows faculty members to leverage Bluemix for computer science, information technology, analytics and data science, mobility and entrepreneurship courses.

“Putting Bluemix in the hands of today’s and tomorrow’s innovators creates the opportunity to foster a new generation of talent in cloud application development,” said Sandy Carter, IBM general manager of cloud ecosystem and developers.

IBM also partnered with the Girls Who Code nonprofit group to facilitate a summer immersion program for female high school students in New York City and will collaborate with GSVlabs to provide cloud training, mentorship and assistance to women who aim to rejoin the workforce after their sabbaticals.

The company is also a sponsor of the Eighth Global Hackathon Series and seeks to demonstrate how the Bluemix and Watson platforms can help the healthcare, travel, food and emergency response industries.
