NCI-Inc.

A subsidiary of NCI has received the first task order worth $76.8 million from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to apply big data and analytics to help detect and prevent fraud, waste and abuse among Medicare and Medicaid claims within the Midwestern jurisdiction.

The company said July 28 the covered jurisdiction includes Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio and Wisconsin.

CMS issued the task order under the $2.5 billion indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity Unified Program Integrity Contractor vehicle.

NCI’s AdvanceMed subsidiary secured a position under that contract, which consolidates previous anti-waste and abuse services performed by multiple contractors.

NCI added its work under the task order involves lead screening, investigation, medical review, remedy implementation and collaboration with CMS, government and law enforcement entities and other CMS partners and contractors.

The company plans to apply big data and analytics to detect and mitigate risks associated with historic billing approaches, payment reforms and healthcare systems development such as electronic health records.

“CMS anticipates this integrated and data-driven approach will lay the groundwork for fostering further program integrity coordination with other private and government payers across the entire healthcare industry,” said NCI President and CEO Brian Clark.
