Donna Harris is due to step down from her role as co-CEO of Washington, D.C.-based seed fund and startup incubator 1776 by the end of January 2017.

She will remain at 1776 as a board member and partner in the fund while her co-CEO and co-founder Evan Burfield will become the sole CEO, the company said Wednesday.

Harris wrote in an article published Wednesday on Medium that she looks to pursue other opportunities amid a worldwide shift “from an industrial society into the digital era.”

She added she wants to turn her attention to challenges facing the future of economy that go beyond the creation of startups.

1776 backs startup companies across the world that work to address challenges in various sectors such as education, energy, transportation and financial services.

Harris previously served as managing director at Startup America Partnership; CEO at Commision33; and vice chair and chief operating officer at National Strategies, Inc.

She also worked as CEO at Vale Solutions and CC Corporation as well as vice president at Centromine.

Harris serves as a board member at the Global Entrepreneurship Week and the National Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
