Intelsat General to Help Leidos Build Satellite Navigation Payload for FAA - top government contractors - best government contracting eventIntelsat General, a U.S. subsidiary of the Luxembourg-based satellite services provider, will participate in a Leidos-led consortium that won a potential $117 million task order to Orbital ATK develop a new satellite navigation payload for the Federal Aviation Administration.

The industry team will build and operate the Geostationary Earth Satellite 7 as part of FAA’s Wide Area Augmentation System constellation, Intelsat General said Monday.

GEO satellites are designed to deliver signal for commercial and civilian pilots to manage approach and departure procedures for aircraft.

Intelsat General will support the design, development, hosting and integration of the seventh WAAS payload into an Orbital ATK-built Galaxy 30 satellite, which is scheduled to launch in first half of 2020.

The project has a four-year development phase, followed by a 10-year operational phase.

An Intelsat teleport located in Napa, California, will provide ground uplink services to GEO 7 and the company added it will help maintain the payload as part of Leidos’ team.
