Navy Selects L3 to Provide New Data Link for 3 Future Littoral Combat Ships - top government contractors - best government contracting event

L3 Technologies has been selected to produce a new communications data-link system for three future U.S. Navy Littoral Combat Ships to receive imagery from multiple aircraft platforms simultaneously, Defense News reported Friday.

The report said L3 will provide Maritime Surface Terminals for installation aboard the Independence-class Mobile and Savannah vessels and the Freedom-class Marinette ship.

John Van Brabant, vice president of business development for L3’s Navy programs, told Defense News that MST is designed to send data at a speed of 45 megabits a second and is nearly 700 pounds lighter than the communications terminal installed on current LCS hulls.

Lockheed Martin will build Marinette, while Austal‘s U.S. subsidiary will construct Mobile and Savannah.
