A new report from Accenture’s federal arm has identified five emerging technology trends that federal agencies can leverage to forge partnerships and relationships with citizens, business partners and employees in the digital economy.

The Technology Vision for U.S. Government 2018 report is based on a survey of 240 federal officials, interviews with experts and analysis of a tech advisory board, Accenture Federal Services said Monday.

The company cited artificial intelligence, data veracity, augmented and virtual reality technologies, microservices and blockchain technologies, and intelligent distributed systems as trends that could help agencies advance their digital transformation initiatives.

The study showed that 82 percent of polled federal executives believe AI platforms will serve as a co-worker and adviser to humans within the next couple of years.

Eighty-six percent of respondents said their federal organizations have started to increase the use of data to facilitate the decision-making process.

“Citizens today are reimagining their lives around digital innovation,” said John Goodman, CEO of Accenture Federal Services.

“Government can capitalize on this trend by enabling a true two-way exchange with the people it serves,” he added.

Dominic Delmolino, AFS’ chief technology officer, told ExecutiveBiz, “The report predicts the most significant technology trends that will impact the government over the next three years. For the first time in history, technology is truly enabling deeper two-way relationships between businesses and government and the people they serve.”
