The National Institutes of Health has partnered with Google in an effort to help researchers leverage commercial cloud technology platforms to manage biomedical data sets.

NIH said Tuesday researchers at the agency and more than 2,500 academic institutions nationwide will have access to Google Cloud computing, machine learning and storage systems through the Science and Technology Research Infrastructure for Discovery, Experimentation and Sustainability program.

Gregory Moore, vice president of healthcare at Google Cloud, said the company aims to help scientists and clinicians use insights from data sets in efforts to discover biomedical treatments.

The agency seeks to add STRIDES partners and introduce training programs meant to familiarize the agency-based community with the latest cloud tools and technologies.

Data from the initiative will incorporate Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable standards that the biomedical research community endorses.
