Parsons to Provide Design Services for Michigan Road Improvement Project - top government contractors - best government contracting eventThe Michigan Department of Transportation has chosen Parsons to serve as lead designer of a project to add high-occupancy vehicle lanes and rebuild freeway lanes on an 8.5-mile stretch of Oakland County.

The company said Monday it will perform work as part of MDOT’s I-75 Segment 2 Design-Build effort that aims to rehabilitate or replace 18 structures, improve drainage and community-developed aesthetic systems, construct noise walls and upgrade traffic signals.

Walsh Construction and Toebe Construction jointly lead the project.

Parsons will also design and integrate intelligent transportation systems for department personnel to detect traffic incidents, manage emergency response, handle traveler information, detect queues, warn on curve speed and manage connected vehicles.

The company will integrate these systems with a transportation management system installed at the Southeast Michigan Transportation Operations Center.

Segment 2 construction work is scheduled to commence this fall.

The overall I-75 modernization and expansion project will reconstruct 18 miles of roadway between Eight Mile Road and South Boulevard.
