Report: Amazon Eyes Northern Virginia for Second HQ - top government contractors - best government contracting eventAmazon is in talks with stakeholders about plans to establish its second corporate headquarters in Northern Virginia’s Crystal City, the Washington Post reported Saturday.

Sources familiar with the matter told The Post the discussions are now in the advanced stages and more elaborate than those the company has had with other potential sites within the N. Va. region and other cities across the country.

Some private and public sector officials said Crystal City-based real estate developer JBG Smith has removed from the leasing market some of its buildings to accommodate Amazon should the Seattle-based e-commerce firm choose the city for its second campus.

The report noted Amazon may also be in similar negotiations with other cities that are among the 20 candidate locations for HQ2.

Amazon said it plans to invest more than $5B in the HQ2 development project and create up to 50K jobs in the selected city with a stable business environment and technical talent specifically in the field of software development.

In addition to site and buildings, other decision drivers listed in Amazon’s request for proposals include capital and operating costs; incentive programs; labor force; logistics; time to operations; and quality of life.

The online retail firm issued the RFP in September 2017 and plans to make the final site selection this year.
