DOE OKs Technology Transfer Initiatives to Foster Government-Industry Engagement - top government contractors - best government contracting eventThe Department of Energy has authorized two new technology transfer initiatives aiming to foster collaboration between contractors and national laboratories.

DOE said Friday these initiatives work to lessen barriers hindering cooperation between industry and national laboratories, and aim to support propagation of resulting technologies across markets.

The first of these efforts, titled the Laboratory Agreement Processing Reform, simplifies the application process for firms in entering national laboratory partnerships. The initiative also allows the DOE to put more focus on transactions requiring stricter handling.

Second, the Liability Reform helps national laboratories respond more flexibly to indemnity requirements that hinder cooperation with private sector firms.

“DOE is committed to facilitating innovation, and these reforms significantly streamline the ability for industry to collaborate with the national laboratories,” said Paul Dabbar, Energy undersecretary for science.
