Report: Leonardo DRS Subsidiary Develops Microscope With Potential Military, Medical Applications - top government contractors - best government contracting event

A Leonardo DRS subsidiary has built a microscope based on advanced laser technology that has potential to counter anti-aircraft missiles, detect pathogens and asses wounds, Forbes reported Thursday.

DRS Daylight Solutions equipped its Spero instrument with a tunable laser designed to generate high frequencies and brightness levels to scan tissue samples and produce a composite image showing the presence or lack of cancer cells.

The microscope also has “dual use” features such as quantum cascade lasers, optics and algorithms designed to support operations in a wide range of unconnected areas, according to the report.

Leonardo DRS acquired Daylight Solutions for $150M last year in a push to expand integrated technology offerings for military and civilian customers.
