Nutanix Execs Cite Security as Essential for IoT, AI Edge Computing - top government contractors - best government contracting event

Jason Langone, senior director for worldwide sales of internet of things and artificial intelligence at Nutanix, has said that agencies and technology developers should consider sensor data encryption, bandwidth, connectivity and other factors when implementing an IoT edge computing framework, Federal News Network reported Wednesday.

He told the IT Innovation Insider podcast show that developers’ transition from producing legacy middleware applications to containerized applications have made it easier to move to the edge and away from the old centralized processing method.

Greg O’Connell, a Nutanix director, said that while edge-based processing has been around for years, the recent integration of cloud infrastructure can accelerate data processing and let users take actions in real time.

He cited a study that predicts edge devices and apps within an edge framework will generate 40 times more data by 2020.

Both executives urged agencies to address security and governance challenges as they look to apply AI and IoT platforms to collect data in the field.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology could release in the coming months a revised guide for organizations to manage implementation of connected devices, the report noted.
