AWS Details How Cloud, IT Industry Can Help Agencies Manage Public Data - top government contractors - best government contracting event

A top official from Amazon Web Services said using cloud platforms and coordinating information technology vendors could help local and state governments cut costs in managing data, address gaps between agencies and improve access to information, particularly for health and social services.

Taha Kass-Hout, senior leader of healthcare and artificial intelligence at AWS, told health IT industry representatives during a keynote address that many agencies are “extremely resource constrained” to obtain and share information, according to a blog post published Monday on the company’s website.

Majority of data on healthcare and social services currently are unstructured and difficult to understand for citizens and agencies.

AWS said building a community of IT vendors and moving to the cloud could help government organizations address the challenges in organizing their data and receiving insights to improve services for the public.

The company cited some commercial tools to assist the government in information sharing and analysis.

AWS Public Sector Partner Program member Northwoods offers the Traverse tool, which uncovers “dark data” to assist agencies focused on child welfare and adult and aging agencies in their services and operations.

Dark data is defined as information that organizations collect during the course of business but which remain unused for other purposes.

Amazon Comprehend Medical, meanwhile, uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to accelerate data analysis for governments and provide insights in the areas of health and public assistance programs.
