John Forte, who has worked at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory since 2010, has taken a new role as APL's mission area executive for homeland protection.

He is responsible for overseeing the development of platforms designed to protect the country from asymmetric threats, APL said Monday.

The mission area he will oversee pursues technology programs related to border security, transportation security, infrastructure security, operation resiliency, decision support information and emergency response.

Forte previously helped spearhead the same area in deputy role and managed efforts to create law enforcement investigation, leadership continuity and decisionmaking concepts.

Prior to APL, he spent 10 years in the U.S. Army and its Reserve component in various positions that include technology operations leader, signal center director and information technology manager.

He also worked as a lead communications engineer at Mitre, chief scientist at the White House Communications Agency, director of operations at CBI Connect and technical director at Morgan Franklin.
