Schneider Electric secured an 18-month, $11.2M task order to update the infrastructure of Moody Air Force Base near Georgia to meet energy savings performance contract requirements and help the installation save over $21M in 23 years.

The company said in a press release that it plans to install a 2.5-megawatt solar array designed to provide electrical power that will help reduce the 2M-square foot base’s utility costs and mitigate reliance on coal, nuclear and gas power sources.

Schneider Electric will also expand the 60-building complex’s energy management controls system, incorporate LED technology into its lighting systems, replace transformers to achieve energy efficiency requirements and update its heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems for air quality improvement. Construction began in July.

Jeff Sherman, senior director and director of federal energy and sustainability services at Schneider Electric, said the company worked extensively with Moody AFB to establish an infrastructure improvement strategy for achieving the transition towards renewable energy.

“We are excited to support their move to integrate solar into their power infrastructure to free up their reliance on fossil fuels and support their broader modernization goals,” he added.

Schneider Electric has supported over 750 ESPC efforts including those in U.S. Army and Navy bases, resulting in more than $2B in energy savings for the company’s clients.
