Northrop Grumman tested the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System along with an MBDA-built modular missile and a radar tool from Saab during a joint demonstration.

Saab’s Giraffe radar transmitted simulated air target data to the IBCS for analysis and tracking, which prompted MBDA’s Common Anti-air Modular Missile systems to engage the targets, Northrop said Tuesday.

The three platforms also showcased advanced integrated fire control and distributed fire direction functionality during the test.

“Building on lessons learned from the CAMM family integration, we were able to integrate the Giraffe radar onto the IBCS network even more rapidly and cost effectively, continuing to demonstrate the dynamic and flexible nature of IBCS’s open architecture in adding capabilities when and as needed,” said Bill Lamb, director of international battle management at Northrop.

The Giraffe radar is designed to deliver 3D surveillance and command, control, and communication capacities while CAMM systems work to deter saturation attacks from precision-guided munitions and high-speed missiles.

MBDA is a joint venture between Airbus, BAE Systems and Leonardo DRS.
