Capella Space, an Earth observation information firm, has secured a contract to help the National Reconnaissance Office study the use of synthetic aperture radar.

NRO intends to integrate SAR imagery into the agency’s enterprise architecture of national ground information, Capella Space said Wednesday.

The study will tackle ways to modify the architecture for NRO’s use of various phenomenologies and overall national security objectives.

Dan Brophy, vice president of government services at Capella Space, said the company’s SAR technology allows for the capture of information on digital elevation mapping, material properties and other features not optically observable.

Capella uses a constellation of 36 satellites to address SAR imagery needs in security, conservation and commercial applications.
