Microsoft, Verizon and Medivis have formed a partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs in support of the agency’s 5G-equipped medical facility in Palo Alto, Calif.

The effort, titled Project Convergence, aims to determine 5G-powered applications for clinical activities at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, the VA said Tuesday.

These applications will also use emerging health care technologies to help VA deliver 5G clinical and telehealth services.

“Our hospital in Palo Alto, California is currently one of only a handful of 5G enabled health facilities in the world,” said Robert Wilkie, secretary of veterans affairs.

The public-private partnership plans to demonstrate initial findings at the Health Information and Management Systems Society conference. The event will take place in Orlando, Fla., from March 9 to 13.
